Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo ($30) is a new scented highlighter and blush palette that launched with the Too Faced Tutti Frutti Collection in four shade selections exclusively at Ulta (and on Too Faced’s website) recently.

I have to admit all Summer long I’ve been craving a new sparkly blush but aside from the NARS Orgasm Collection (which hello, everyone already owns) nothing really popped up. Excuse me but Tarte, hi, can you finally revamp the damn Amazonian Clay Blushes to include some shimmering shades like Glisten!? Please?

While I wait for that to happened I’m totally getting my fix with these Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo. Love, love, love them!

Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo may just be my favorite product to date from the Tutti Frutti Collection. I love the packaging, I love the shades, I love the freaking sparkle, they are just my ideal sort of blush.

The blushes are available in four fruity shades that each have a unique fragrance. As with all of this collection I’m deeply impressed with the cute packaging. Ok, yes, as I said before, I’m over the mermaids and unicorns thing! Actually, I was never into it to begin with but fruit? Cute fruit? Sign me up! Each blush comes in a gold compact with an fruit enamel face plate. Inside you’ll find a generously sized mirror and a cute little fruity character printed on the mirror. The blushes hold 0.22 oz of product.

If you’re as old as I am you likely remember Strawberry Shortcake and might be drawn to the shade Strobeberry which much smells like the Strawberry Shortcake doll. I thought this shade had the heaviest scent which I could literally smell after applying it to my face. Apricot in the Act had the lightest, barely there scent. Plumagranate and Cherry Bomb had lighter scents too and also, didn’t quite smell like a plum nor a cherry. Cherry Bomb had a weird almost mint note of some kind mixed with fruit. The truest scent was Strobeberry for me.

Anyway, scent aside let’s chat formula.

Each blush is a split pan that holds a shimmering highlighter or blush if you’d like to call it that on one side and a satiny blush on the other. I didn’t like using the shades individually so I ended up swirling in both shades and blending onto my cheeks. I think the more satiny shade was a little drier compared to the silkier texture of the sparkle shade. I also had some issues picking up the satin shades with my brush. If I swirled a bit harder I got better results with my brush and just had to tap off excess. The reason I like the split pan is because I stink at applying highlighter and I feel like I can get that pretty luminous glow with these without a lot of effort. Keep in mind they do have a good deal of sparkle so a lighter hand works best. They are also quite pigmented so, again, a little goes a very long way. According to Too Faced the more you blend the more the shimmer will come out. I didn’t really notice that happening but I will say the blended quite easily onto my cheeks! I had worries they’d be patchy but I had no issues with application nor blending and the colors lasted for a solid eight to ten hours on a rather hot day.

There’s a review on Ulta’s site from a user named Sable60 and she posted images wearing the blush and personally I think she catches the essence of how this looks beautifully. I don’t do as good a job since 1. I suck a photos and lighting and 2. in some images I simply used way too much as I’m prone to doing.

I think the interesting think about the shades is the fact they look one color in the pan but look completely different and even prettier once you apply them. I think purple lovers are going to adore Plumagranate because all the blush portion is fuchsia the highlighter (or second blush shade) is purple and that really comes across in the final finish.

Needless to say I was very pleased with these! I don’t think everyone is going to love them especially if you hate sparkle but those of us who have been craving some shimmer in our blushes this Summer here it is!

Where to buy

Ulta Too Faced

Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo is new scented split-pan blush duo or as a blush/highlighter duo that contains 0.22 oz of product and retails for $30. The blush is available in four shade selections and is exclusive to Ulta and the Too Faced website. In my experience with this duo I thought the sparkly shade (can be used as highlighter or a blush or combined with the satin shade) had a soft, silky texture but did contain a good deal of refined shimmer where as the satin was a little denser and drier in texture. Both shades blended well with excellent pigment and a beautiful finish that wore for a good eight to ten hours without fading. Despite the drier texture I was still able to successfully blend the colors together to create a very pretty sparkly glow on my cheeks!

Pros

  • Anyone who loves a shimmery blush!
  • Those who value great makeup packaging!

Cons

  • Not for sparkle or shimmer haters.
  • Not great if you’re heavy handed (a lighter touch is required to apply these).

Who

Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo is the ideal duo for those of us who aren’t great with a highlighter or who love a sparkly blush. Swirling the colors together creates the perfect union of color and glow to give your face a pretty flush of color and glow!
